Thank you Sir, may I have another?

So I am about 6 months from my wonderful rib and tumor removal surgery.  All has gone well, I had a follow up outpatient surgery about a month ago, and that went well.  Pain is my new normal.  It is not disabling, but it is always there, primarily where the titanium ties into my ribs.

I had my first chest scan of my lungs a few weeks ago.  They will do that quarterly for 2 years as a precaution.  There is a very slight chance that with the proximity of the tumor that it could go to my lungs.  Well my lungs are clear!! Great news... Wait not so fast.

When lungs are scanned, the top end of your kidneys are scanned as well.  Guess what, there is a mass on my left kidney.  More scans, and another specialist.  Today it was confirmed, I have renal cell carcinoma.  Yup, you guessed it, cancer again.

This cancer is totally unrelated to my previous cancer, which makes it very weird to have had 2 different types of cancer diagnosed in the last 9 months.  The good news is this, the tumor is encapsulated and can be surgically removed.  There is no post surgery treatment, no chemo or radiation, just get the stupid thing out.

I met with Dr B today, and we are going to schedule surgery in the next month or so, there is not a big medical rush, however there is an insurance rush.  I  have met the deductible and this is a freebie, so I have to have the surgery before the end of June.

This is now the 4th, yes 4th case of cancer in the family in the last four years.  Wait you say, Hannah and you twice, that equals three... Well my mom, not to be outdone, was diagnosed with peritoneal cancer about 2 months ago.  So that makes 4.

Mentally we are all good.  As a family we are jointly saying "what the heck", but moving forward.

We still know and firmly believe that God is in charge and in control.  We are his vessels to do His work, and I am firm in the belief that He will use me to further His kingdom.

Stay tuned..

Eucaristia.

  1. Craig - I am just now reading this. I am so sorry that you have to have another surgery. And yes, very good news that this tumor is encapsulated. When I had stomach cancer, mine was encapsulated as well. No treatment just get that thing out. I am thinking about all of you and when the dust settles, we need to get that river trip planned my friend!!
